APA

APA is the most commonly used referencing style at universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands. At NHL Stenden, we also use the APA style when referring to sources.* The APA style was drawn up by the American Psychological Association.

APA is not only a format for writing papers, but also a way to refer to sources. It provides guidelines for source citations, quotations, paraphrases and source list construction. The library has developed, in some cases in collaboration with other libraries, several products and services that can help you to apply APA.

  • APA quick guide (PDF)
This quick guide provides an overview of the most important rules.
  • Library guide
Project APA7 has created a library guide on the APA guidelines and how to apply them.
  • Knowledge clips
Project APA7 has developed knowledge clips on the APA guidelines. The knowledge clips can be found in both Dutch and English on this page and are also available on YouTube and Presentation2Go (after logging into NHL Stenden search for APA and select filter 'none').

For those still working with the 6th edition of the guidelines, it is a good idea to review this video with the main ten differences.
